D2066 engine parts: what fits, what fails, what we stock

The D2066 is the 10.5-litre inline-six that carried most of the Euro 3 to Euro 5 fleet before the D2676 took over the heavy end of the range. It was built in outputs from roughly 320 to 480 hp, with EVB engine brake versions and with EGR exhaust gas recirculation from Euro 4 onwards.

Parts differ across the emission stages and between EVB and non-EVB units, so the engine number on the block is the only reliable identifier. A head or a camshaft from a Euro 3 engine will not simply drop into a Euro 5.

Where it is fitted

Trucks of the TGA, TGS and TGX series, coaches and city buses with the same power unit, and stationary and marine versions of the same block.

What typically fails

Valve gear on EVB enginesThe engine brake loads rocker arms, adjusting screws and camshaft lobes far more than a standard head. Clearances that will not hold after adjustment usually mean the rocker gear is worn, not the valve.
Oil pressure at idleA warm engine that drops its pressure at idle is more often a tired oil pump or a worn pressure relief valve than a bearing problem. Measure at the block before opening the sump.
EGR module on Euro 4 and Euro 5Soot blocks the cooler passages and the valve seat, which shows up as power loss, high exhaust temperature or coolant disappearing with no visible leak.
Turbocharger actuatorOn the variable geometry units the actuator loses calibration or the vanes stick after long idling. A new turbo without checking the oil feed and the actuator ends the same way as the old one.
Coolant pump and elbowsCorroded elbows and a weeping pump drain hole are cheap to fix and expensive to ignore; overheating on this engine cracks heads between the valve seats.
