D0836 engine parts: what fits, what fails, what we stock

The D0836 is the 6.9-litre inline-six of the light and medium range: TGL and TGM trucks, city buses, and a large number of stationary and marine installations. Many of these engines spend their life in stop-and-start traffic or at long idle, and that duty cycle decides which parts wear first.

Versions run from Euro 3 to Euro 6 and differ in injection, exhaust after-treatment and cooling. The engine number decides the version.

Where it is fitted

TGL and TGM trucks, city and intercity buses, and stationary and marine units built on the same block.

What typically fails

Wear from idlingCity bus engines accumulate hours at idle rather than kilometres. Bores glaze, oil consumption rises, and compression falls long before the odometer suggests a rebuild.
Cooling circuitThermostats and coolant pumps on this engine lead a hard life in slow traffic. An engine that never reaches temperature wears faster than one that runs hot.
Injectors and fuel returnRough idle and hard starting show up here before a fault code does; measuring the return flow finds the faulty injector in minutes.
Turbocharger on bus applicationsConstant load changes and long idle periods coke the bearing housing. Always establish why the old one failed.
Exhaust after-treatment on Euro 5 and Euro 6A filter that will not regenerate in city traffic is usually doing its job under impossible conditions; check the duty cycle before replacing the filter.

What to send us when you ask for a price

Send us the engine number, the emission stage and whether the engine is in a truck, a bus or a stationary installation. The application changes which version of a part fits.
