Flywheel & flywheel housing

The flywheel carries the clutch friction face and the starter ring gear, so it collects two different kinds of wear: heat cracks and a scored face from the clutch, and chipped teeth from the starter. Both are visible as soon as the gearbox is off, and both are reasons to replace rather than re-use.

Flywheels, starter ring gears and flywheel housings in SAE 1, 2 and 3 are listed for MAN D08, D20, D26 and D28, together with the flex plates and pressure flanges used on power take-off and industrial versions.
